Henceforth, Permanent Voter’s Card (PVC) must be presented by any member of Umuahia Anglican Diocese before being allowed to be wedded in churches under the Diocese.
Also, any couple coming for marriage blessings and child dedication would present PVCs before being cleared to formalising of the marital union.
Similarly, all youths of voting age and other adults who are coming for confirmation as communicants must present evidence of their PVCs before being cleared for the religious exercise.
These and other decisions were taken by the Anglican Diocese of Umuahia, at the end of its week-long 10th Synod held at St Andrews Church Amino na Nsukwe.
Explaining the decisions, Bishop Geoffrey Ibeabuchi of Umuahia Anglican Diocese said the measures were aimed at encouraging full participation of all adult members of the church in voting exercises.
He pointed out that by doing that, God-fearing leaders would be elected into offices of leadership in Nigeria, adding that it was also designed to checkmate voter apathy among some church members.
He also urged the members and other Christians to vote out bad rulers and install true servants, with the PVCs.
Ibeabuchi further declared that a special monitoring team would be put in place during general elections, to ensure that no youth from the Diocese allowed himself to be used as a thug by politicians.
In the same vein, Aba Land Lords Protection and Development Association, (ALPADA ) has given all her tenants 30 days within which they must get their their Permanent Voters’ Card (PVCs) or face a process of ejection from their houses.
They said that the measure is aimed at ensuring that voters are equipped with pvc which is the most necessary material fo a hitch free election election coming up in 2023 .
This is part of the Communique they issued recently at the end of their 3 days intensive deliberation, serious interactive sessions, workshops and membership training activities tagged ALPADA WEEK.
The Association appreciated Governor Okezie Ikpeazu’s efforts in infrastructural development of Aba in particular, adding that his construction of Echefu Rd, Ibadan Street, Ngwa Rd, Ukaegbu Rd,Ehere Rd and others under construction àt the moment has alleviated the sufferings of Aba citizens.
They appealed to the Governor to fast track the ongoing road construction at Port Harcourt Rd, Ohanku Rd, Urratta Rd and other roads to ensure their completion before the expiration of his tenure .
They also appealed to all their members to pay all the approved government levies from Tuesday next week, promising to partner with the Police through the Commissioner in rebuilding the Technical Department of the Nigerian Police Headquarters (popularly called Zone 6), which was destroyed during the Anti SARS riots in 2020.
The Land Lords equally promised to work with relevant authorities to establish Small Scale, Medium and Big Scale industries in order to create employment for teeming youths as a means of abating and reducing crime in the state.
ALPADA advised any member who encounters problems in their payment of bills to The Electricity Distribution Companies (DISCOs) notify the association through its head office, for prompt intervention and quick resolution of such problems.
