Ohanaeze Ndigbo and Association of Igbo Town Unions (ASITU), two most formidable groups in Igbo speaking Nigeria, have agreed to work together to protect, promote and attract growth and development in Igbo land. This was made known, when the leadership of ASITU from the 5 Eastern States, led by the National President, Chief Sir Emeka Diwe, paid a courtesy visit to the President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Chief Engr Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, in his Glass House office, Owerri.
Chief Iwuanyanwu who received the group with enthusiasm, promised to integrate ASITU in the plans and programs of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, because according to him, the town union occupies a sublime position in the history of Ndigbo. He noted that Town Union has contributed immensely to the development of Igbo land, stating that it was through the structure of the town Union that contributions made to erect big projects in Igbo land, such as the Imo Airport, were made and collected.
He made it clear that the Town Union cannot be ignored by any person, persons, group or association who want to succeed in Igbo land. The Ohanaeze Ndigbo boss explained that he has good relationship with the state governors of the South Eastern States and that he is liaising with them to ensure socio-economic freedom of the zone.
Chief Iwuanyanwu who shared the industrialization, economic and cultural plans of Ohanaeze Ndigbo with the leadership of ASITU, explained that the task before Ohanaeze Ndigbo is so enormous that it will require the collective effort of major stakeholders particularly ASITU to accomplish.
Earlier, the National President of ASITU, Chief Sir Emeka Diwe, had told the Ohanaeze boss that they came to congratulate him on his emergence as the President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo World Wide. He described his election as a welcome development for Ndigbo, because according to him, a Daniel has come to judgment.
The ASITU National President, who said ASITU is the soul and bedrock of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, reminded his Ohanaeze counterpart the need for Ohanaeze to strengthen and institutionalized the synergy between the two groups. Chief Diwe who took Chief Iwuanyanwu through the details of modern Town Union, said that any Igbo man worth his salt is a members of the non political organization and will be willing to play strong part in the development Igbo land.
Those who accompanied the National President of ASITU include the National Public Relation Officer (PRO), Chief Ihudike Monday Ikoku, President of Association of Abia State, Chief George Mgbeorukwe, , Enugu State counterpart, Pauly Eze, Chief Ikechukwu Alu representing Ebonyi Chief Onyewuchi representing Anambra , Chief Titus and the National Secretary of ASITU, Chief Gideon Adikwuru.
