Wrong overtaking kills 1, injure 4 in Anambra fatal clash

Wrongful Overtaking Violation (WOV) and Speeding have left no fewer than one person killer and four persons injured in a fatal accident while twelve people were rescued unhurt.

The unfortunate incident occurred on Wednesday, 25th January, 2024 at about 12noon infront of Universal bakery, uzoakwa Ihiala, in Inhiala Local goverment area, Anambra state

Confirming the report, Ag. Sector Public Education Officer for Sector Commander Anambra State FRSC, RC Margaret B Onabe said “Three unidentified drivers; Nissan commercial bus with registration number: JJT-57XX, DAF Trailer with no registration number, and a Mack Trailer with no registration number was involved in a fatal road traffic crash today 25th January, 2024 at about 12:00hrs”.

“The cause of the crash was attributed to Wrongful Overtaking Violation (WOV) and Speed”.

“According to eyewitness, the bus driver stopped in front of universal bakery and was discharging passengers, the two trailers were coming from behind with excessive speed trying to overtake each other, as a result of that, the Mark trailer hit the bus to an electric pole and the bus somersaulted and crashed. The two trailers continued their movement without stopping”.

 

“17 people comprising (13 male adults, 4 female adults) were involved in the crash.

 

Number Injured: 4 comprising (3male adults and one female adult), Killed: 1 male adult, 12 people were rescued unhurt”.

 

The injured victims were taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Ihiala by FRSC rescue team from RS5.34 Ihiala Unit Command, while the dead victim was deposited at same hospital mortuary.

 

FRSC Rescue team on ground managed the traffic and ensured obstruction caused by the crash was removed.

 

The Sector Commander Anambra State Corps Commander Adeoye Irelewuyi sympathised with the family of the dead victim and wishes the injured victims quick recovery.

 

He warned motorist to desist from wrongful overtaking and drive within safe speed limit they can control.

 

He also advised commercial vehicles to park outside the road where it is safe to offload passengers.

 

Speed thrills but kills let keep our roads safe from crashes.
