Born on August 25, 1958 into the family of late Mazi Bernard and late Bessie Nwankwo Akukwa. He was the second of his parent’s seven children and hailed from Aboh-Uhuana Village, Ndiowu, Orumba North Local Government Area of Anambra State.
He started his primary school education early enough in 1964, crisscrossed the length of Ogidi, Igboukwu and finally Oba, where he completed his primary school education.
He started his secondary school education at Okongwu Memorial Grammar School, Nnewi between 1973-1978, after which he gained admission at the University of Ife where he studied law. On completion, he proceeded to the Nigeria Law School and was called to the Bar in 1983.
He had very eventful youthful life. He married two wives, one of who predeceased him. He was blessed with children some of whom are also lawyers like their late dad.
In the practice of his dream career-law, B. S. Nwankwo SAN was exceptionally brilliant lawyer and had a successful and robust practice via his law firm B.S. Nwankwo & CO . His legal industry with his attainment of the status of a Senior Advocate of Nigeria in September 2015.
In appreciation of his victory in respect of an age long litigation in the kingship of Ama-Ofulu Autonomous community in Imo state, Igwe Prof. Ebighigbo conferred him with a chieftaincy title of “Oke-Osisi I of Ama-Ofulu in 2013.
In his home town, Ndiowu, he was popularly known as “Nwachinemelu”. Notwithstanding the fact that his late father was an Anglican Catechist, he was a home boy who contributed his quota to the growth and development of his community.
B. S was a dedicated Christian, while growing up, he was very active member of the Scripture Union and St. Peters Anglican Church, Agbata, Ndiowu.
In his political life, B. S was promising, having contested and won a Councillorship election to represent his political ward in 1991 under the defunct Social Democratic Party (SDP). He loved social life and a joking good fellow anywhere he thrived. He was a member of the renowned Honda Sports Club.

He had prominent features, the most remarkable being a very large nose and sharp penetrating eyes. Bomboy was a cute little boy and we all loved him.
And then, this Bomboy quickly did everything…he quickly metamorphosized out of Bomboy into Benson, the great Achiever!
With the same fast and determined spirit, this Benson Nwachinemelu, plunged into the world. And I dare say, he conquered it because this Benson was a TRUE BELIEVER and a HUMBLE CHILD of Christ Jesus as the Son of God Almighty.
He was not a “Converted Christian” . This Benson Nwachinemelu met and followed Christ Jesus as an SU (Scripture Union) member.
It was in that sincere and honest mindset that Benson met his heart throb, the Elegant Stallion, Late Edith Ekejiuba, a Masters Degree holder in Pharmacy (in the same SU) and married her… that marriage which had it’s foundation in the Holy Scriptures, was blessed with Chukwudi BSc, Dr. Ozioma, the twins of Ikechukwu and Ogechukwu ( both lawyers now).
And this Benson continued to make progress in the world… especially in his chosen profession, Law, where he launched into an excellent and impressive practice to rise to the highest echelon of the Profession.
He was elevated to the enviable and revered position of Senior Advocate of the Supreme Court of Nigeria (SAN). He sat in the hallowed Chamber with the Kings and Queens of the Legal Profession in Nigeria!
Benson later in life married a second wife, Ifeyinwa with whom he had Adachukwu (Lawyer in Training) and Chukwudalu.
Benson became a successful and wealthy lawyer who fought against his poor background and humble beginnings with a terrific resilience and determination and conquered it. He was a millionaire lawyer with vast assets in major cities of the country.
Various Communities conferred various Chieftaincy Titles on this humble Grandson of the Legendary Ogbuwarara Ndogu – a renowned orator who usually held his audience spellbound in rapt attention from the beginning to the end of his addresses!!
So, Populations far and wide, this great son of my Papa and Momma is dead, yes, dead but the MAN, the Legacy of this Fighter and the lessons of his life CANNOT die.
