Residents of Ayamelum Local Government Area recently witnessed another demonstration of the Solution Agenda as the Executive Chairman, Hon. Alphonsus Ofumelu, commissioned several landmark projects aimed at improving education, infrastructure, security and governance across the council area.

The projects, which cut across communities including Anaku, Mgbakwu, Omor, Ifite Ogwari, Umumbo, Omasi and Umueje, include the installation of solar-powered street lights and CCTV cameras, the construction of a five-classroom block with a fully equipped science laboratory at Community Secondary School, Mgbakwu, the rehabilitation of the 1.5-kilometre Omor–Umerum Road, the construction of a legislative building and an administrative building, as well as the beautification, landscaping and internal road network within the Ayamelum Local Government Secretariat.

Speaking during the commissioning ceremony, Hon. Ofumelu said the projects were executed to ensure that the people of Ayamelum enjoy the dividends of the Solution Agenda of Prof Charles Chukwuma Soludo.

“We are celebrating very significant projects in Ayamelum. When we assumed office, we promised to bring the Solution Agenda to our people, and today we are fulfilling those promises,” he said.

According to him, the reconstruction of the 1.5-kilometre Omor–Umerum Road has transformed transportation in the area. “Before now, the road was virtually impassable, making it difficult for vehicles to travel beyond a few hundred metres.”

“Today, people commute with ease, and the journey from Omor to Umerum now takes about 10 minutes. Even motorists from Enugu State now use the road. We thank the government for making this possible,” he stated.

Speaking at community Secondary School, Mgbakwu, the Mayor noted that the previous dilapidated structure had negatively affected teaching and learning.

“Today, we have a modern and well-equipped science laboratory. I encourage the students to protect these facilities, study diligently and make productive use of the opportunities provided,”

Hon Ofumelu also highlighted the completion of the new legislative building, describing it as a befitting office complex for councillors, complete with modern conveniences. He added that the renovation of the administrative block, construction of internal access roads, installation of CCTV cameras, parking facilities and landscaping of the secretariat further demonstrate the administration’s commitment to good governance and sustainable development.

In her remarks, the Deputy Mayor of Ayamelum, Hon. Mrs. Felicia Mbanugo, described the projects as a source of pride for the people of the local government.

“It is a thing of joy to witness the completion of these projects. They are lasting investments that will continue to benefit our people.”

Mbanugo also stressed the importance of greater women’s participation in governance, urging women to actively engage in decision-making, policy implementation and leadership at all levels.

Also speaking, the incoming Mayor of Ayamelum Local Government Area, Amb. Mgbechi Emmanuel Igwebuike, commended Hon. Ofumelu for what he described as remarkable achievements in office.

He noted that the administration had delivered critical infrastructure, including road construction, the science laboratory building, beautification and landscaping of the local government headquarters, renovation of the executive building, installation of CCTV surveillance systems, solar-powered electricity and numerous solar street lights.

“These projects have significantly improved the lives of our people and clearly demonstrate the progress recorded under the APGA administration. As we approach the local government election on August 29, I am committed to consolidating on these achievements and delivering even greater dividends of democracy to the people of Ayamelum,” Igwebuike stated.
