The Catholic Archbishop of the Owerri Ecclesiastical Province, Most Rev. Anthony Obinna, has disclosed that the kidnapped auxiliary bishop of the province, Most Rev. Moses Chikwe is highly traumatized upon release from the kidnappers’ dungeon.
Obinna made this known in a release he personally signed in appreciation of Chikwe’ release.
The archbishop said Chikwe and his driver, Ndubuisi Robert, who were abducted on December 27, 2020, were rescued at about 10:00PM on January 1, 2021.
Obinna further revealed that he visited and saw Chikwe in his residence at about 10:45PM same day, ‘looking and feeling very weak from the traumatic experience’.
The prelate stated that Chikwe’s driver before his visit, had been rushed to a hospital for treatment due to a deep cut on the hand the driver received from the kidnappers.
Obinna expressed gratitude to God for the release of the auxiliary bishop and his driver.
He also commended the Imo State government and security agencies for their efforts to rescue the victims, and as well thanked the Catholic faithful and entire Christians for their fervent prayers within the period of captivity.
