Anambra Police Command Awka on Friday 7th January paraded suspected kidnappers who murdered member of the Anambra State House of Assembly, Hon Justice Azuka

In a confessional statement by a 30-year-old man, Mr Ugochukwu Onuorah, and his gang who denied collecting the sum of ₦100m from late Anambra lawmaker, Hon. Justice Azuka as reported on social media, equally alleged that he refused to pay them the sum of ₦20 million demanded from him.

Azuka, member representing Onitsha North 1 Constituency was abducted on December 24, 2024 at Ugwunagbamkpa road, Onitsha while returning to celebrate Christmas with family members but his decomposing body was recovered by Anambra joint security operatives on February 6th.

Onuorah stated this while been paraded at Amawbia, Anambra State police command’s headquarters, along 8 other suspects such as Mr Ikemefuna Ossai, aged 20, Mr Ikenna Orugu, aged 27, Mr Chibuike Obiefuna aged 19, Mr Chinonso Olisa, aged 19, Mr Chinedu Okoli, aged 21, Mr David Ojini, aged 25 and Mr Peter Sunday, aged 20.

He also alleged that the lawmaker was not shot to death but beaten up by the gang till he gave up the ghost.

However, while the gang members agreed with him that the late lawmaker could not pay the sum of ₦20 million demanded from him they insisted that the deceased was shot to death by Onuorah.

The suspects could not also authenticate the actual date they killed the lawmaker as some of them claimed that he died either on 24th or 25th December as against 26th December earlier testified by one of the suspects in a viral social media video clip.

One of the suspects, Mr Peter Sunday, was spotted with a tattoo on his chest which read ‘no peace for government,’ and when asked the rational behind that, he alleged that his mother was killed by the security sent by government at Cross River state.

The Anambra state police commissioner, Nnaghe Obono Itam, while parading the suspects and weapons recovered from them explained that autopsy and further investigation was ongoing to ensure that the suspects and their collaborators would not go unpunished.

The commissioner equally paraded one Mr Chidiebere Nwosu, a kidnap suspect from Uruagu, Nnewi, noting that some of his gang members were neutralised when they involved in the attack of Police personnel attached to the Rapid Response Squad on 3rd October, 2024.

“We have also neutralised more than one hundred (100) notorious criminals and successfully destroyed many criminal camps in Ufuma, Eziowelle, Achalla, Ogbaru and many other places in the State,” he added, commending governor Chukwuma Soludo and others for their support to fight insecurity
