Anambra South Chieftain of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), also the Managing Director of Anambra Rice Mills, and CEO Zara Stores, Chief Akai Egwuonwu has called for more urgent action to combat Pneumonia and cold related diseases by providing safety measures for the people.
While commending the Anambra State Governor, Professor Charles Soludo CFR, for investing more in health centre and addressing various health related challenges in the state.
Chief Egwuonwu made the call on Tuesday, 12th Novemeber, 2024 as the world commemorates World Pneumonia Day with the theme, “Every Breath Counts; Stop Pneumonia In Its Tracks”.
According to the APGA stalwart, the theme underscores the critical value of each breath and he therefore called for urgent action to combat pneumonia through early detection, effective treatment, and preventive measures.
Chief Egwuonwu further stressed that pneumonia has a direct relationship with immunisation and the environment, noting that the administration of Governor Soludo is addressing the challenges by upgrading and equipping health centres in the state, in order to provide quality health services to the residents.
Highlighting Governor Soludo’s key health initiatives as recruitment of approximately 1,000 skilled medical personnel to address the shortage of doctors and medical professionals in hospitals, Free Antenatal Care and Delivery Services, Renovation and Modernization of Hospitals, Construction/Renovation of three General Hospitals in Umueri, Ekwulobia, and Enugu-Ukwu, establishment of 30 Cervical Cancer Screening Centers in the state, provision of State Emergency Medical Services and Ambulance Systems (SEMAS), Drugs Quality Control Lab at COOUTH, Amaku, and Medical Oxygen Production Plant and Endoscopy Unit.
These initiatives demonstrate Governor Soludo’s commitment to providing quality healthcare services to the people of Anambra State, Chief Egwuonwu assured.
Chief Egwuonwu however appealed to Ndi Anambra to embrace healthy living initiative championed by Anambra First Lady, Mrs Nonye Soludo, adding that Mrs Soludo had been at the forefront of public sensitization on the benefits of healthy living.
