To mark forty years of existence and dedication towards service to society, the Police Community Relations Committee southeast zone has held a prestigious anniversary and installation of Grand patrons/Awards to deserving members.
News Echo reports that the event which held on Friday, 31st May, 2024, at vertex View Hotel, Nibo had in attendance key personalities in the state and beyond.
In a welcome address, National Vice Chairman, PCRC, Dr Okafor Gods Time Onyedikachi said “the milestone marks four decades of unwavering commitment to fostering collaboration and mutual understanding between the police and the community they serve”.
“Our dedication to bringing the gap between law enforcement and the public has yeilded significant improvement in trust, cooperation and crime prevention. This occasion is to reaffirm our commitment to continue building stronger, safer and more resilient communities.
Dr Okafor charged the members, Police force and the community to recommit themselves to the principles of partnership, trust, and mutual respect.
Presenting the PCRC history, the National Chairman, Mogaji Ibraheem Olaniyan expressed happiness at the doggedness of the committee over its synergy with the police to ensuring security of lives and properties while commending the Anambra Police Commissioner for the proactive manner in which they carry out assignments.
He however, frowned at the recent attack on soldiers in Abia state while praying that their souls will continue to rest in peace. He advised the public to seek dialogue and not taking laws into their hands.
He charged the members and the public to be vigilant and support the activities of the officers in other to ensure credible service delivery.
Zonal Chairman PCRC, zone 13 Ukpo, Hon Dr Chris Bishop Okeke, noted that community policing is an integral aspect of community development and that is why PCRC partners with the Nigerian police force to make sure that maximum security of lives and property is assured.
Speaking on the security challenges, Bishop stressed that state policing is the key to sustainable strategies to arrest security challenges. He added that state policing will bring its architecture down to the grassroots which will be easier for police in the community. “When we bring it down to the community will be able to fight crime up to 70 percent”.
In his Keynote address, Commissioner of Police Anambra state, CP Nnaghe Obono Itam emphasized that the dysfunctional nature of our country have paved way to long awaited birth of state Policing. Siting the reintroduction of the old anthem as example, which have stayed over forty years, CP Itam suggested that Nigeria should move forward to achieving greater heights.
PCRC Chairman, Anambra state, Survy, Okechukwu Okeke explained that the essence of the event was not only to Award deserving members but to bring to limelight their support to Nigerians and the police for effective security consciouness and peacein the communities. He advised all hands on deck to ensure that we bring lasting solutions to insurers in the country.
Osta Charles Mba in his speech said “I congratulate the PCRC Anambra State Chapter, Mr pounds, Bishop to keep up the good work they are doing, I am impressed about their dedication to humanity and thats why I have come to support them”.
Chief Mba, however, appreciated Governer Charles Soludo, the Nigerian police force for their doggedness in combating insecurity in the state and prayed that the good Lord will continue to strengthen them for more successful breakthroughs.
Patron Award recipient Surv Sir Chigbo Ejike Okeke in appreciation speech thanked the PCRC for finding him worthy of the honour. He urged the committee to work closely with the Anambra Commissioner of Police, CP Itam because there is something special about him.
Also speaking, Chief Surv Gaby Okeke, Chairman, Nigerian Institute of Surveryors, Anambra state lauded Survey Chigbo Okeke who is one of the senior surveyors. “I am very grstefult he is Brin honoured today’s as a patron of PCRC. Its a task they have given him and we encourage him to continue the good work”.
