The Southeast leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students NANS has made a passionate appeal to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to consider recruiting fresh graduates into its ranks.

Southeast zonal Coordinator of NANS, Giant Comr Charles Obinna Ijeomah, made the appeal during the

during a courtesy visit to the EFCC headquarters in Abuja, recently.

Comr Ijeomah while expressing satisfaction for the interaction commiserated with the commission over the loss of their officer, Salisu, an assistant superintendent, and condoled with the commission.

Comr Ijeomah emphasized the importance of recruiting fresh university graduates who have completed their mandatory National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) service. These graduates would undergo training to become officials of the commission, helping to combat corruption among youths and partnering with the EFCC to fight internet fraud.

The NANS coordinator stressed that recruiting fresh graduates would make the job easier for the commission. It would also help put an end to unwarranted raids and arrests of students in their hostels. Innocent students are often caught up in these raids, wrongly accused of being internet fraudsters. By recruiting graduates as staff and officials, the EFCC would function more effectively, as youths understand their fellow youths better and can provide invaluable information to aid in the fight against corruption.

The commission secretary, Mr. Muhammad Hammajoda, received the delegation on behalf of the EFCC Executive Chairman, Ola Olukoyede. He appreciated the student leaders for their solidarity and reminded them that everyone is a stakeholder in the fight against corruption. Hammajoda pledged to collaborate with the students to fight corruption and consider their request.

The EFCC has a history of recruiting and training new operatives, such as the 331 cadets graduated in 2017, who underwent six months of rigorous training.

To be eligible for EFCC recruitment, candidates must meet certain requirements, including being Nigerian citizens, possessing a minimum of five credits in no more than two sittings in the West African Senior School Certificate (WASSCE), National Examination Council (NECO), or General Certificate of Education (GCE). They must also have a valid means of identification and be physically and medically fit.

The EFCC offers a comprehensive training program for its recruits, including courses in law enforcement studies, anti-corruption, cybercrimes, digital forensics, and forensic accounting. The training is provided at the EFCC Academy, which operates on a tuition-free basis.
