Unhappiness befell residents and commuters of the Onitsha/Enugu express road shortly after a cyclist conveying Izaga masquerade with a passenger tried to overtake a Bua Truck but luck run out of him as the long hook of the masquerade hit the moving truck causing a fall at the back tyre.
News Echo gathered that the passenger fell and immediately got crushed by the back tyre. The victim was said to be rushed to a nearby hospital where the doctor on sort confirmed him dead.
Ag. Sector Public Education Officer, Sector Commander Anambra State FRSC RC Margaret B Onabe confirmed this in a statement made available to newsmen during the weekend.
According to Onabe, “An Unidentified driver of a commercial truck with body code number: 371 belonging to BAU Cement and a driver of a Santa/KC motorcycle identified as Nnamdi Dieli was involved in a fatal road traffic crash at Awkuzu junction by Onitsha-Awka Expressway today 18th May, 2023 at about 10:20hrs”.
“The probable cause of the fatal crash was projected Load Violation”.
“According to eyewitness, the bike rider was overtaking the truck when the load he was carrying (IZAGA MASQUERADE) which is very long hit the truck which made the pillon (motorcycle passenger) to fall and was hit by the back tyre of the moving truck”.

Two male adults were rescued unhurt”.
The FRSC rescue team from RS5.33 Nteje Anambra State rushed the victim to Chira Hospital, Akwuzu where one male adult was confirmed dead and his corpse deposited at same wisdom mortuary.
The team also ensured obstruction caused by the crash was cleared. As at the time of this report, the truck driver has been handed over to Oyi Police Division.
The Sector Commander Anambra State Corps Commander Adeoye Irelewuyi sympathized with the family of the dead victim and wishes the injured victim quick recovery.
He seriously warned motorist to desist from disobeying traffic rules and regulations emphasizing that traffic rules made was to advert this kind of crash that occurred.
Meanwhile, some residents of Awkuzu has expressed deep concern following the recent increase in road accident along the express road.
