The Mayor of Anaocha Local Government Area, Hon. Romanus Ibekwe (Ezeugo Anaocha), on Thursday, August 6, 2026, officially flagged off the second edition of the Anaocha Skills Acquisition Programme at the Anaocha Local Government Secretariat Podium in Neni.
The initiative is aimed at equipping participants with practical vocational skills to promote self-reliance, entrepreneurship and economic development. A total of 762 trainees have registered for the programme across 10 vocational skill areas.
The registered participants are distributed as follows: ICT, 77; Fashion Designing, 175; Confectionery and Catering, 181; Solar Installation, 70; Decorations, 15; Bag Making, 31; Barbing, 12; Cosmetology, 39; Shoe Making, 66; and Hair Dressing, 96.
Speaking during the flag-off ceremony, Hon. Ibekwe said the programme underscores his administration’s commitment to youth empowerment and aligns with the economic transformation agenda of the Governor of Anambra State, Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo, CFR, particularly the “One Youth, Two Skills” initiative.
He noted that the training would provide participants with practical knowledge and vocational competencies needed to become productive, self-reliant and financially independent. The mayor urged the trainees to remain dedicated throughout the programme and make the most of the opportunity.
The Programme Coordinator and Women Development Officer, Mrs. Obiageli Mmadumere, expressed satisfaction with the level of participation, describing the response as encouraging. She explained that the duration of the training would vary depending on the chosen skill, with some courses lasting up to six months while others would be completed within a shorter period.
Mrs. Mmadumere encouraged participants to demonstrate discipline, commitment and seriousness throughout the training. She also highlighted the successes recorded during the first edition of the programme, noting that several beneficiaries had established businesses and become self-employed after completing their training.
The second edition of the Anaocha Skills Acquisition Programme is expected to further strengthen vocational skills development among young people in the local government area while fostering self-employment, entrepreneurship and sustainable economic growth.
