Anambra State Ministry of Housing recently appeared before the State House of Assembly Committee on Finance and Appropriation to defend it’s budget estimate of N10.5 billion for 2024 fiscal year. Breaking down the activities of the ministry’s budget at the Anambra State House of Assembly Complex, Awka, the Commissioner for Housing ,Hon.Pauly Onyeka said that in the previous year, the ministry had expended the sum of N3.1billion on the construction of the new Government House and Lodge which will be completed next year , renovation of 17 duplexes built for commissioners, adding that the ministry had almost completed new police boot camp at Isuofia in Aguata LGA, as well as the renovation and maintenance of several buildings, especially the three General Hospitals at the three senatorial zones of the state.
He said that in 2024, an estimated amount of N10.6 billion was budgeted to enable the ministry to continue with work at the Government House and Lodge, and that the ministry will commence the building of an annex of the Secretariat Complex to accommodate other MDAs, while the Deputy Governor’s Lodge with the Old People’s Homes will also be constructed. Others include upgrading of Dr Alex Ekwueme Square facilities in Awka, to an international standard, among others.
He explained further that the ministry is a service ministry which plays important role in the development of the state and invariably, has been involved in the maintenance and renovation of several public and government buildings across the state which includes schools , hospitals and other projects in the state. He further noted that the ministry will continue to extend democracy dividends to ndi Anambra, which is the target of the state governor, Prof Chukwuma Soludo.
The Chairman, House Committee on Finance and Appropriation /Budget Defence, Hon.Ejike Okechukwu, asked the ministry’s team to alway support the budget estimates on capital expenditure with bill of quantity, itemized break down cost,which they must submit.after the excise . Other staff of the ministry in attendance include the Permanent Secretary, Mrs Ifoma Ezeaku , Director Civil Engineering Department Dr Engr Eze lkechukw , Director Department of Quantity Surveyor, Mr Edison Nnamdi, Director Building Construction and Maintenance, Mr Samuel Ojeleke , Ag Director, Architecture Department Arch Mbanugo Kelechi, Ag Director Accounts, Mrs Nkechi Okeke, with Ag Director PRS Department, Mrs Juliana Okoye, and HOD Admin, Miss Ifoma Okekeze Ekweaga Uzoma is with Ministry of information.
