Anambra police command nabs notorious armed robbers

Police operatives attached to Ogbunike Division of Anambra State command have arrested armed robbery suspects over alleged handbag snatching and one chance robbery along Ogidi/Nkpor/Tarzan and Umunya axis of Anambra state.

The Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, Har una Mohammed who confirmed the incident, said the suspects, Chukwuemeka Ikechukwu (22) of Chibest Street, Tarzan and Tochukwu Okeke (30) of Nkwelle Ukeh in Idemili North LGA of the State, specialised in one chance robbery and handsets snatching within the area.
He listed items recovered from them to include; two firearms, twelve handsets, cash sum of #290,000 suspected to have been stolen from different victims at gun points.

According to the PPRO, “On the 6/09/2020 at about 4:30am, following credible intelligence re por t, police operatives attached to Ogbunike Division smashed a robbery syndicate and arrested the suspects.

“Suspects were part of the gang allegedly involved in series of armed robbery and handset snatching, operating at Ogidi, Nkpor, Tarzan, Umunya, Odomodo, tollgate axis and its environs.

“Exhibits recovered in their possession includes one automatic pump action with breech no 12776, one English Menuhin pistol, one dagger, two hand bags, twelve assorted handsets, one purse containing recharge cards of various denomination.

Others include one tricycle Keke with REG.number NSH 299 QH, One locked Safe containing unspecified amount of money and cash sum of Two hundred and ninety Six thousand Naira(#296,000) all reasonably suspected to have been snatched from different Victims.

“Meanwhile, the command enjoins the public whose handsets and other belongings were either snatched or stolen through similar modus to report at Ogbunike division or the command Special Anti Robbery Squad, Akwuzu, in order to claim their property and also give further evidence to aid police investigation.

“Consequently, it is interesting to note that one major factor responsible for the overall successes recorded by the command is the support of “Ndi Anambra” and residents alike who were observed to have been very cooperative with the personnel of the security agencies.

“The Commissioner of Police, John Abang acknowledges this fact and urges the public to sustain this level of cooperation with the police at all times, especially during this period of “EMBER MONTHS” in order to enhance safety and security in the State.”
