A political advocacy group, Anambra Patriots, has officially endorsed Engr. Obiora Okafor and Pharmacist Egbutu Onyedika Boniface as preferred candidates for the Anambra State House of Assembly elections in Awka South constituencies.
The endorsement ceremony, which took place on Sunday, 19th April, 2026 at the group’s secretariat in Awka, drew members of the organization, community stakeholders, and supporters from across the constituencies.
Our correspondent who monitored the process reports that Engr. Obiora Okafor an indigene of Awka, who is vying to represent Awka South Constituency 1, was described by the group as a seasoned professional with a track record of leadership and commitment to grassroots development. In a statement delivered during the event, the group’s leadership noted that Okafor’s vision for infrastructural growth, and youth empowerment aligns with their core objectives.
Similarly, Pharmacist Egbutu Boniface Onyedika, from Nise endorsed for Awka South Constituency 2, was praised for his contributions to community health initiatives and public service. The group highlighted his accessibility, integrity, and dedication to improving the welfare of constituents as key reasons for their support.
Speaking at the event, the National Chairman of Anambra Patriots, Ozor Damian Elekwechi said “We are here today to endorse our own. They have been our members since 2024, and we have it in our characters to support our own. So there is no way we can support another person because the essence of joining a group is to be there for the group and the group in return be therefore you.”
“Anambra Patriots is so organised that it seeks to scrutinise any candidate vying for any position. We have a goal and if you derail, we issue you out of our organisation because the motto is accountability and good governance. So if you get there and did not abide by our rules, we show you the exit door and there would not be any coming back for you because you betrayed the people that put you there.
Speaking on the strength of the Association, Ozor Elekwechi disclosed that “we call ourselves the only support group, others are supported. Not only because of our financial prowess but because of our numbers. These Anambra Patriots your seeing is in the 326 wards in the state and sponsored by ourselves. We are 20 executives per ward, showing you over eight thousand then add other members and you will see we are over ten thousand. We don’t make noise we do actions.”
While, emphasizing on the importance of electing credible and people-oriented leaders in the upcoming elections, The Patriot Boss urged members in both constituencies to rally behind the endorsed candidates, stating that their emergence would ensure effective representation and accelerated development.
The Awka Aspirant for House of Assembly, Awka South constituency 1, filing questions from journalists on the high rent payment in Awka, Anambra State Capital, disclosed that he will ensure that laws that will empower the people are made available. “If elected I will provide avenues for youth empowerment, programmes that will improve the livelihood of ndi Awka South, vocational programmes that will equip them and make them become financially stable so that the they can meet up with the challenges and at the same time sustain themselves.”

Speaking on land tussles, Hon Okafor urged residents to make proper verification before making payment of any property so as not to fall a victim to land grabbers. Hon Okafor promised to represent the people of Awka South Constituency 1 and not to embezzle public funds as fine by some politicans in the past
Also speaking to Newsmen, Pharmacist Egbutu Boniface Onyekachukwu who hails from Nise community, Aspirant from Awka South constituency 2, described his intentions as to ensure that the resources on ground are being utilised, oversight functions and pay attention to the needs of the people.”I will render health and sports development and assist to initiate laws that will establish sustainable development goals for our health and sports sector so that the youths, the elderly will be well taken care of.
The practising community pharmacist and human development capacity personnel, stated that he has played roles on representative agenda right from the childhood. He assures that his voice will be the voice of the people.
However, In their separate acceptance remarks, both Okafor and Onyekachukwu expressed gratitude to the group for the endorsement, pledging to uphold transparency, accountability, and inclusive governance if elected. They also reaffirmed their commitment to addressing key challenges facing their constituencies, including infrastructure deficits, unemployment, and access to quality healthcare.
The endorsement by Anambra Patriots is expected to influence political dynamics in Awka South as campaigns continue to gather momentum ahead of the coming elections.
