As the Nigeria’s population and housing census takes place, The National Population Commission has again assured that the 2023 census will be carried out in line with professional and scientific standards.
The Federal Commissioner Representing Anambra State in the Commission, Chief Chidi Ezeoke, gave the assurance in Awka, while addressing its Specialized Work Force and Facilitators
This year’s Census will be conducted from March 29 to April 2 across the country.
National Population Commission is already recruiting numerous functionaries to prepare its personnel who will participate in the exercise.
The Specialized Work Force and Facilitators are expected to help in moulding the Supervisors and Enumerators, who will carry out the actual counting of people and buildings.
Chief Ezeoke who said that the Specialized Work Force and Facilitators were critical to the success of the National Population and Housing Census, explained that about 1,163 personnel would be deployed in the 21 LGAs of the state to prepare the Supervisors and Enumerators for the programme.
He assured that the Census PADs and new technologies introduced by the NPC would promote the generation of reliable data needed for national planning.
The Federal Commissioner expressed gratitude to Anambra State Government for its support towards the success of the Census, informed that Monitoring and Evaluation instruments had been put in place to assess the actualization of its objectives.
The Anambra State Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Comrade Don Onyenji, and Member of the State Census Committee, commended the State NPC for measures being put in place to ensure the success of the exercise.
The Director of the NPC in Anambra State, Dr Joachim Ulasi, explained that the commission had made adequate training arrangements to ensure the success of the census.
Chief Magistrate Genevieve Osakwe, who administered the Oath of Secrecy on the participants, urged them not to flout the law guiding the conduct of census in the country.
Earlier in a message, the Director, Legal Services, NPC, Doctor Chioma Umeh-Kalu, represented by Mr Donald Chimezie, to said the oath was to ensure that its personnel carried out their assignments in tandem with the Act establishing the commission
