Anambra Ministry of Power and Water Resources begins rehabilitation of water facilities

In keeping to her promise of providing clean and portable water to the people, the Anambra State government led by Prof Chukwuma Soludo, has begun the rehabilitations of damaged water supply facilities in the flood affected areas across the state.

The commissioner in charge of power and water resources in the state, Engr Julius Chukwuemeka, said that the ongoing project which the state government is doing in the collaboration with UNICEF, was to ensure that the people, especially those in rural areas, have access to clean and portable water.

Chukwuemeka further said that most of the water supply facilities, stopped functioning for ages while some were damaged by the recent flood disaster. He stated that in order to save the communities money being spent on diesel, that solar powered systems were installed in each facility for pumping the water. The commissioner said that the project is ongoing simultaneously across the flood affected areas. He however appealed to the people to be watch dogs over the facilities in order to safeguard the the facilities.

The project manager of RUWASSA, water resources department, Mr Tochukwu Nwosu, said that the funds for the project are already made available and promised that they will deliver at the stipulated time.

In appreciation of the gesture, the traditional ruler of Eziagulu Otu, HRH Igwe Lawrence Nwofia(Igwe Ochiagha of Eziagulu Otu) who took the commissioner and his team round the facilities in his community yesterday, thanked the state government for always remembering the community especially, for the ongoing rehabilitations which he said, have made water available in the community. Igwe Ochiagha, promised the support of his community to the state government and prayed for the governor and commissioner.

Other notable persons who were joined the inspection team include, the traditional rulers of Enugwu Otu and Mkpunando communities, HRH Igwe Emmanuel Igbanugo Ejiofor & HRH Igwe Johnson Mbanefo, president generals of Enugwu Otu and Mkpunando, Hon Joseph Odikpo and Hon Ifeanyi Terry Mokwe, SSA to the governor on youths, Hon Nnamdi Ikeli among others.

Facilities at Eziagulu Otu, Enugwu Otu and Mkpunando communities were inspected.
