The Anambra State Ministry of health in partnership with DKT International Nigeria, with support from Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare have trained thirty selected reproductive health workers on long acting reversal contraceptives with emphasis on levoplant implant and hormonal IUD.

NEWS ECHO reports that the four days training had participants drawn from the tertiary health Care, General hospital (secondary), and Primary Health centres to undertake training at Meloch hotels, Awka.

In his remark, the Anambra State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Afam Obidike reiterated the importance of Family Planning and Child spacing in the society as a critical tool needed to tackle societal problems. Adding that It helps to reduce economic burden on the parents.

The Commissioner, however, assured DKT International Nigeria the state will continue to partner them to achieve its family planning objectives while urging participants to take the training serious in order to teach the women at the centres all the risks factors involved and always counsel them properly to understand what they want to do and choose best practices for themselves,

Anambra State Family Planning Coordinator, Mrs. Amara Ezeokenwa in her speech said the essence of the training is for health workers to acquire the knowledge, go back to their various facilities and help train others. “Child spacing is very crucial to families as well as the planning. So we are trying to sensitive the people to know the need to adopt these preventive measures”.
Hospital sales Manager for DKT Nigeria,
Rex Idemudia, explained that DIK roe is to ensure safe, effective, quality and affordable family planning that is accessible to everybody in Nigeria. “Since then we have been playing our part both in the private and public every sector to ensure we partner with every stakeholder while ensuring that our vision and mission is accomplished”.

“We have been holding series of programmes in different states and this is to shed more light, educate nurses and doctors, knowledge about the products, how to use it, new risk involved and any other advancement we have made over the years. We expect that the trainers will be trained properly”.

Representative of the Federal Ministry of Health, Abuja, Mrs Oteka Nneka noted that she is here to supervise the training of levoplants, hormonal IUD for providers as one of the family planning methods. She noted that the training which involves room and physical session will expose the learners to a wide range of experiences that will be useful in their various health centres.

Also speaking, some of the participants, Mrs Nwankwo Loveth from Orumba North health Centre and Mrs Chukwukelue Ebele from Ichi Referral health Centre in Ekwusigo L.G.A said the training dealth on Levoplant, a new implant for family planning which when implanted in upper arm will prevent pregnancy for three years and hormonal intrauterine device (IUD) that when inserted, it will prevent unwanted pregnancy for five years.

They both expressed happiness for the knowledge and assured that the training will be taken down to thier various health centres.
