Anambra Lawmaker, AKPUA sponsors bill against environmental degradation

A bill for a law to provide for the management, protection and sustainability of the environment in Anambra state and for connected purposes has scaled through second reading at the state House of Assembly. The Executive bill which was Presented by the Deputy Majority Leader, and member representing Njikoka constituency Two, Mr Jude Akpua seeks to encourage the people to manage their environment properly in order to avoid road deterioration.

Mr Akpua called for catchments to be built at compounds in order to curb erosion and environmental degradations. In their separate submissions, the Chairman house committee on Environment Mr Fred Ezenwa representing Onitsha South One , his Onitsha North two counterpart Mr Patrick Okafor and the member representing Ihiala Two, Mr Golden Ilo as well as Mr Nobel Igwe of Ogbaru constituency one harped on the need for the bill to be accelerated as it will no doubt impact positively on the environment.

 

According to them the objective of the bill is to provide a clean, safe and healthy environment for all residents in the state and to enable citizens access various public amenities both residential, educational and recreational including culture and economic purposes. The Speaker, Mr Somtochukwu Udeze referred the bill to the house committee on environment and the house committee on judiciary and justice urging them to report back to the house in one month.
