Anambra state government let by the Executive Governor Prof Chukwuma Soludo has flagged off distribution 200 computers to heads of Departments, appointees and Director of Agencies. News Echo reports that this is in line with Soludo’s led administration’s mantra of “everything technology and technology everywhere”.
The first phase of distribution across Ministries, Departments and Agencies as well as government appointees, will gradually introduce the use of e-mails and other tools and softwares in the day to day running of government activities. The 200 computers, equipped with modern digital tools, which runs into over a 100 million naira are core i2 and i5 computers which will soon be backed with high speed internet facilities. Speaking on behalf of the Governor, Secretary to the State Government, Professor Solo Chukwulobelu recalled that the policy began about three years ago when the former administration set up an ICT Agency
The SSG stated that across the world, people interact easily with the use of technology, describing it as the speed of change in the world and called on civil servants to embrace technology as it is very liberating. He asked the agency to continue the next stage of training of civil servants on technology and commence digitization of documents to make work easier.
The State Head of Service, Barrister Theodora Igwegbe revealed that it is one of the pillars of digitisation of the service, saying that it among other things, will introduce a shift from paper service to digital service for enhanced productivity and efficiency. Barrister Igwegbe further pointed out that the commencement of the distribution is a bold step by the Governor. Earlier, the Managing Director of Anambra ICT Agency, Mr. Fred Agbata noted that it is a milestone for Anambra State government under the supervision of Governor Soludo, for which the ICT Agency is elated to be at the forefront.
He said that they conducted a baseline survey of the situation across MDAs and discovered a civil service that has a total of 306 computers which is not ideal, as governments across the world now rely on technology. Meanwhile, the symbolic presentation of the gadgets formed the highpoint of the event, Commissioners, Special Advisers and other members of the state executive council, civil servants, among others eqaully attended the event.
