Five communities in Ukwa West LGA of Abia State, on Thursday, October 15 and Friday, October 16, benefited from free medical outreach and food sharing exercises conducted by 14 Brigade Nigeria Army, Ohafia.
The two-day outreach was carried out in five towns; Owaza, Obuaku, Uzuaku, Okohia and Obuazor by the army team, led by the Commander of 14 Brigade Nigeria Army, Brig Gen Solomon Babatunde Kumpayi , where natives of the five communities received free medical services and food items such as rice and tomatoes.
In his address, Kumpayi stated that the outreach was army’s way of assisting the communities towards climbing out of the challenges of Covid 19 and an avenue of demonstrating the smooth Army- Civilian relationship.
He urged the leaders of the communities to ensure peace in their areas, noting that free drugs, eye services, laboratory services, among others were received by natives of the five towns.
Responding, one of the natives, Mr Timothy Ubani who received free eyes treatment and food items, thanked General Kumpayi and his men for remembering them.
Timothy noted that that the natives of the oil- producing local government would now feel at home with the army than ever.
Meanwhile, Owaza community is back in human and vehicular movements, two weeks after the natives allegedly fled to other towns in fear of being arrested in connection with the death of two army officers in their community.
During the free medical service conducted at community square Owaza, many youths, and elderly, turned up to benefit from the event, even as it was observed that shops and other economic activities which came to a halt are back in business.
Recall that Mr Fineboy Edeh, the youth leader of Owaza town had two weeks ago, alleged that his area had turned to a ghost town, following alleged harassment of natives by army teams.
