The Ebonyi State Government has said that it is not averse to making itself available for public scrutiny should the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) commence investigation into the spurious allegations made by former development center coordinators alleging misappropriation of over 6 billion naira belonging to the 13 local government areas of the state.

In a statement signed by the Special Assistant to the Governor on Media, Mr. Francis Nweze and made available to Newsmen in Abakaliki. The SA described the purported petition written to the Economic and Financial Crime Commission EFCC against the state government as frivolous and baseless.
He expressed the regret that former Coordinators led by Amos Ogbonnaya had written the EFCC alleging that the Ebonyi State Government misappropriated the statutory allocation of the 13 Local Government Areas of the State to the tune of more than 6 billion naira.

He therefore called on the people of Ebonyi State to remain vigilant and watch how merchants of fake news and blackmail would one day be implicated and vilified in the temple of justice.

Part of the Statement reads, “My attention has been drawn to a letter circulating on the Social media addressed to one Mr. Amos on-behalf of purpoted former Coordinators in Ebonyi State by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC”.
“In the letter, the EFCC directed Amos Ogbonnaya, lawyer to the alleged former coordinators to furnish it with relevant information in line with its allegations against the State Government bothering on financial impropriety”.

“From the foregoing, it is clear that when the purported former coordinators were concocting the allegations, it never occurred to them that the EFCC would make demand of information and relevant documents as it was just aimed at tarnishing the good image of the State Government”.
“Unfortunately, the EFCC has not just requested information and documents, it has also directed that the group presents a representative for interrogation,” the letter added.
