The member Representing Afikpo North/ South Federal Constituency, Hon. Iduma Igariwey has appealed to Governor David Umahi to give desired attention to the reconstruction of Amasiri- Afikpo road.
Igariwey in a statement issued in Abakaliki which was titled ” Amasiri- Afikpo concrete pavement: time is running” drew the attention of Governor, David Umahi, to the death trap that has become the road
He said “I wish to humbly draw the attention of our Governor, Chief David Umahi, to the death trap that has become Amasiri-Afikpo road”
“This road, which was part of the larger Afikpo-Okigwe road, was last rehabilitated by Julius Berger construction company and was easily one of the best-asphalted roads in the south East”.
“However, in the past two years or more, our “wonder-working “Governor has turned this all-important road to a concrete pavement laboratory, where all sorts of patch-patch experiment, is being conducted.
Also, our Governor, in his “wisdom”, decided to dualize this road. Whether there was need for dualisation is not my worry.
Rather, because of the horribly shoddy and unprofessional nature of the concrete pavement on that road, the entire stretch has predictably collapsed, forcing all motorists to perilously use one side of the road only.
This is most dangerous to road users, considering the large number of normal and articulated vehicles that ply this all-important road”.
“Considering that the Umahi administration has just about 12 months to wind up and leave, the prospect of repairing this death trap of a road looks gloomy indeed”.
