…Killers Demand For Son’s Head

Indigenes of Osumenyi Community in Nnewi South Local Government Area of Anambra State were on Friday 29th April, 2022, thrown into mourning as unknown gunmen invaded the community, killing no fewer than five persons and declaring one Vincent Tochukwu Nwaikwu of Okofia village wanted.
Our Correspondent gathered that the incident reportedly occurred at about 8:30 p.m. when a group of men stormed a local beer parlour and opened fire on some residents who were drinking, while some nearbys took to their heels.
The gunmen on sighting that their suspect was not gunned down left in a hurry and reports had it that they visited Mr Vincent Tochukwu Nwaikwu’s house but could not see him.
According to eye eyewitness who spoke to our Correspondent, said, “Gunmen opened fire on some persons drinking at Uto Ndu beer parlour around 8:30 p.m. and one of them was heard saying, “This is not him, that’s the father (Gilbert Soni Nwaikwu of Okofia village), this is not Tochukwu our suspect, let’s go to his house”.
Mrs Gloria Eze who cried uncontrollably while speaking to newsmen said “I saw Mr Soni lying lifeless in his own pool of blood, these people are wicked and they must not go unpunished”, she wailed.
Corroborating the information, Eneh Okeke told our Correspondent that while five persons were confirmed dead, “the gunmen felt disappointed as their target where not met and shortly drove off. They couldn’t get their target and so they drove off, It was in the morning that we got news Mr Gilbert Soni Nwaikwu was shot dead at the beer parlour after the gunmen visited his house seeking to see his son, Vincent Tochukwu Nwaikwu”.
One of the relatives who sought anonymity disclosed that some months ago, Mr Vincent was kidnapped and ransom was demanded from him until he miraculously escaped from their captivity.
Nevertheless, the separatist group reports shows that they are leading agitation for an independent state of Biafra to be carved out from the South-east and some parts of the South-south Nigeria.
News Echo reports, that the detention of the secessionist group leader Nnamdi Kanu has triggered unrest, unwanted killing and maiming of some youths in the Southeast especially those who have refused to join the group.
However, a viral video circulating online was seen as the masked gunmen continue to seek for the arrest of Vincent Tochukwu Nwaikwu.
Meanwhile, the whereabouts of Mr Vincent Tochukwu Nwaikwu have been unknown and the families are pleading for the safe return of their son.
The Police Public Relations Officer in Anambra State has yet to confirm the last night’s attack as of the time of filing this report. He, however, assured the residents to keep calm as the police are currently investigating and will ensure the suspects are brought to book.
