Residents of Nawfia, in Njikoka local government area of Anambra state have been thrown into mourning following a tragic accident that claimed the life of a tricycle driver and injured three others.
News Echo gathered that the ugly incident which took place at the Nawfia old road invloved three cars and was caused by wrongful overtaking.
Ag, Sector Public Education Officer of FRSC, Anambra command DRC Margaret B Onabe, confirmed the incident in a press statement made avaliable to press men.
According to Onabe, “The crash involved 20 people compromising (12male adults, and 8 female adults.) No injured: 3 (2male adults, 1 female adult) No killed: 1 male adult. (The Tricycle driver)”.
“The cause of the fatal crash was attributed to wrongful overtaking (WOV). An eyewitness said the driver of the Ford Transit enroute Awka, overtook the truck wrongfully and rammed into the Tricycle enroute Onitsha in a single carriage way and crashed”.
“The crash was between three vehicles. An unidentified driver of an Ash Ford Transit bus with registration number: NZM98EA, an unidentified driver of a yellow tricycle with registration number: AAH707UM, and an unidentified driver of a red Mack tuck with registration number: KJA243XK”.
However, the victims were rushed to an undisclosed hospital before the arrival of FRSC rescue team from Awka Sector Command. The personnel managed traffic and ensured obstuction caused was cleared.
The Sector Commander Anambra State Corps Commander Adeoye Irelewuyi while sympathizing with the families of the dead victim, wished the injured victims quick recovery.
He urged drivers to watch and ensure the road is clear before overtaking. While urging them to obey traffic rules and regulations always.
