A total of forty-four defaulters have been apprehended and charged to mobile court in Nnewi Local Government Council over failure to adhere to the COVID-19 protocols.
The exercise was in collaboration with the State Ministry of Transport, the Nigerian Police Force, Anambra Traffic Management Agency, ATMA, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, and OCHA Brigade, Anambra South Chapter.
Speaking before the exercise, the SSG, Professor Solo Chukwulobelu represented by Hon. Sunday Okafor, COVID-19 State Admin Officer noted that it is primarily to sensitize people on the need to always have their facemask properly fitted on their face and the possible punishment for the defaulters at the mobile court.
He stressed that Anambra state government led by Chief Willie Obiano will not relent in her effort to curb the spread of the virus.
The SSG explained that government is not so much interested in the fines from defaulters nor their prison sentences, but most importantly wants all and sundry to comply with the COVID-19 protocols, especially wearing of facemask at public places.
The Zonal Commander OCHA Brigade, Anambra South District Mr. Emmanuel Obi, chided those that still disobey the directives of the government as he insisted that the government will continue to fight for the entire well being of her citizens.
The Coordinator COVID-19 Taskforce, Nnewi Zone, Hon. Chikeluba Ezefunamba beckoned on Anambra people to always go out with their facemask, so as not to force the government embark on another total lockdown due to the increase in spread of the virus.
