From David Eze,
Abakaliki
The governor of Ebonyi State, David Umahi has reaffirmed the commitment of the government to partner with the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) to create job opportunities and promote youth capacity in the State.
Umahi gave the assurance in Abakaliki when the delegation of NASENI led by its executive vice chairman paid him courtesy call. The governor said that the solution to most of the country’s predicaments lie in the creativity of Nigerians especially youths.
He charged youths to sit up and channel their youthful exuberance in proffering solutions to some of the challenges confronting the nation. Umahi commended the agency, describing it as the beginning and end of the problems of Nigeria, adding that the agency represents the practical demonstration of what engineering profession meant.
He noted that the agency deserved serious attention of government in order to resolve the many problems facing the nation. “I’m so touched and lack words to describe what NASENI is doing, but I can say that, this is the hope for our country, Nigeria.
“Sometimes, we don’t know what we need as a nation. But, honestly, after food, health and education, this is the next thing Nigeria should look after. This is the beginning and the end of our problems. I never knew this kind of thing is in existence. “I believe strongly that we can do it, looking at the things you have produced locally. Is it the science equipment, the agriculture equipment, the solar power, so many of them”, Umahi said.
He also assured of his administration’s commitment to collaborate with the agency to establish a workshop that will train Ebonyi youths to specialize in assemblage and fabrication of homegrown solutions to the needs of the Nation.
Earlier, the executive vice chairman of NASENI, Professor Sani Haruna said the agency was poised to provide domestic remedy to national problems through technological solutions. He explained that the agency has the capacity to provide solar energy, fabricate motorcycles, trucks, aircraft, tricycles and other groundbreaking domestic interventions that would turn around the fortunes of the Nigerian Nation.
