If everything goes on well as planned by the people’s Democratic Party, Senator Samdaddy Nnaemeka Anyanwu would be among those to be sworn in as members of the National executive committee of the People’s Democratic Party come this Friday.
Senator Anyanwu has been prominent in the Nigerian political system since 2004. In this analysis, efforts will be made to examine the progress and thrust of this calm, amiable, charismatic and eloquent politician from Atta in Ikeduru LGA of Imo State. Nobody will fault any conclusion to the fact that Senator Anyanwu has had a successful run in the Nigerian politics. Before delving into the array of his political career, performances and activities, it will be necessary to lay a foundation of his brief but loaded with facts and figures activities.
Samuel Nnaemeka Anyanwu born 18th June 1965, is a Nigerian politician who represented the Imo East constituency in Imo State in the 8th Assembly Senate of Nigeria. He declared to run for Governor in the 2019 elections but things didn’t go his way. He is a member of the People’s Democratic Party.
Samuel Nnaemeka Anyanwu received his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Port Harcourt in 2001.
Anyanwu was chairman of the Ikeduru Local Government Area in western Imo State from 2004 to 2007 and was a member of the Imo State House of Assembly from 2007 to 2015. In the Senate he was a member of the committees on Ethics, Privileges and Public Positions and Customs, Excise and Tariff.
That is to say that he has been in the limelight in the murky waters of Nigerian politics since 2004.
One thing which must be attributed to Senator Anyanwu apart from his noiseless carriage is that he is a man of persistency and consistency.
In spite of all the hubbubs, summersault and other political roughness which has characterised politics in Nigeria, Senator Anyanwu has remained calm and focused navigating exactly his terrain.
A man of elegant built with enviable carriage, Senator Anyanwu has not been identified with the type of summersault in political activities. Indeed and in fact, those who have come closer to him must attest to the fact that in any discussion, he is not a man of too many words but a man of measured reasonable output.
Quite unlike so many Nigerian politicians, one can attest to the fact that he is a man with consistent presence of the mind.
A highly diligent person, Senator Anyanwu is a man of his words. No matter the subject, no matter the circumstances, he will talk less but listen more.
Senator Nnaemeka Anyanwu is an apt description of what Modibo Keïta, the first President of Mali and the Prime Minister of the Mali Federation once said, “Young political champions who strive to make it top must begin with understanding the hubbricks of local politics and be able to grow in it and within it. They must understand that the elevation and shortcomings of leaders in their local community or country are well studied, grasped, analysed and then put into practice in dealing with their constituents.”
That is why Marcus C. Clement an European historian once said, “For one who thinks big on politics must possess the attributes of humility, respectability and accommodating principles of calmness, observations and must know how to control the nuances of the grassroots.” Indeed, Senator Nnaemeka Anyanwu certainly fits this characterization and what Edmund Burke a British politician refers to as, “The characters, qualities and behaviours of a Scottish gentry.”
Quite unassuming in character and behaviour, on approach to his modest mansion, Nobody but nobody will believe that indeed that is the residence of a Distinguished Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
In his modest sitting room, one would find a mixture of the high, the low and on the other side of the moderately furnished sitting room you will still find “thinkers and intellectuals” engaged in meaningful discussions and not in destructive gossips.
During his campaign for the senate race, Senator Anyanwu walked into my office quite unassuming.
From a brief discussion I had with him regarding his political ambition, I found out that he was a highly knowledgeable person. Indeed he had the grasp of every political activity in this country. From that discussion and for four years he was a senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, he kept every promise he made to me.
Even when you think that he must have forgotten the result of the outcome of the discussion you had with him, he would spring a surprise in implementing the decisions of those discussions. Therefore, I and many others were not surprised when the announcement was made that Distinguished Senator Nnaemeka Anyanwu was appointed the National Secretary of the opposition party, PDP.
I want my readers and members of the public to take this statement to the bank that Senator Anyanwu will bring to the table more political qualities, actions and innovations which will make it easier for the ruling APC to redouble their various strategic options because distinguished Senator Anyanwu is a highly intelligent person who does a lot of calculations in any political action. We wish him and his political party goodluck as we move along towards 2023.
