The Senator representing Kogi West, Smart Adeyemi, threw caution to the winds last Tuesday, when he accused the Abia State Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu, of being a drunk. Adeyemi was contributing to a debate on a motion by Senator Stephen Odey, tagged, “Urgent need for the restoration and revalidation of the safe school initiative in Nigeria,” when he suddenly deviated and started attacking Ikpeazu. He was probably reacting to a social media post allegedly authored by the Abia South Senatorial District representative in the National Assembly, Enyinnaya Abaribe, which allegedly cast serious aspersion against the person of the Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello.
In response to Adeyemi’s outburst, the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Okezie Ikpeazu, Mr. Onyebuchi Ememanka, Commissioner for Information, Chief John Okiyio Kalu, former Kogi Senator Dino Melaye and the spokesman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Kola Ologbodinyan has respectively taken a swipe at Senator Adeyemi for his unprovoked comments on the governor of Abia State.
Gov Ikpeazu is a drunk – Adeyemi
Despite that some governors are doing their best, we are lucky to have a governor (in Kogi State), who has taken the issue of security as a serious priority. “We are bordered by nine states, but we had an experience of the unfortunate incidents that are happening in neighbouring states. “Some governors are committed to the protection of their people, in my state the governor awarded contracts for the renovations of schools and provides security services to them. “In some states of Nigeria today, where we have highly intelligent people, highly educated people, very enterprising people, like Abia they are governed by drunkards. “The governor of Abia is a champagne drinking man. “Abia people are impoverished more than ever before. Abia people are unfortunate.”
Adeyemi is a drug addict – Dino Melaye
“It is shocking that a diabolical father of a known drug addict who even went to a rehabilitation centre will call the decent Governor of Abia State names. I apologise on behalf of this blood thirsty senator.”
Adeyemi, Irresponsible – PDP
“It is indeed unfortunate that Senator Adeyemi, whose words were respected by Nigerians while he was in the PDP has become so corrupted by his sojourn in the All Progressives Congress, APC, that he has completely lost his mind just to satisfy some new gods. “Senator Adeyemi must have noted the widespread national detestation and opprobrium that he had brought to himself by his unguarded comment against the highly respected Governor Ikpeazu and the people of Abia state. Moreover, our party has equally noted that Senator Adeyemi’s uncouth comment is borne out of bitter envy for the achievements of Governor Ikpeazu in every sector of life in Abia state, which no APC governor, including Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State, can compare.
Your head needs Examination – Abia Govt
“Our view is that the Senator is either suffering from a protracted case of mental illness or is battling with occasional fits of schizophrenia which manifests in making careless, dishonourable, unrelated and incoherent statements”. “If Senator Adeyemi was of sound mind, he should have known that when it comes to education, Abia is miles ahead of his home state of Kogi, and a “non-compos mentis. “For the avoidance of doubt, Governor Okezie Ikpeazu does not take alcoholic drinks and he is shocked at the schizophrenic outburst of Senator Adeyemi whom he has never met nor had any dealings whatsoever with officially nor privately.”
Sen Adeyemi is a Village Idiot – Abia Govt
Sadly, it appears that the hallowed platform provided by the National Assembly is now village square for confirmed village idiots to open their mouths, thereby doing great disservice to the great men and women, past and present that have been elected to serve as Senators. “For the records, Governor Okezie Ikpeazu doesn’t drink alcoholic beverages of any kind and I make bold to invite ‘Undistinguished’ Smart Adeyemi to appear at a place of his choice with the Governor for a test for alcohol in the blood system. He should also not forget to bring along his own state Governor for the test.
We know that only confirmed drunks will see and call even saints drunkards and we want to give Adeyemi the opportunity to prove that past allegations of drunkenness induced misbehavior against him are false. “Sadly, a man like Senator Adeyemi who is described by his professional colleagues as the most despicable NUJ President in history who engaged in dubious project tours allegedly to siphon the resources of the Union is the one abusing the privilege of being elected a senator in a constituency where the more erudite and socially justice conscious Senator Dino Maleye also contested is a sad commentary on the situation we find ourselves as a country especially at a time of national security crises requiring serious and focused actions by all arms of government.
