Twitter ban in Nigeria: We’re ready to meet Nigerian government

Social media company Twitter has said that they are ready to meet with Nigerian government for an open discussion over the suspension of their platform in the country.
This reaction from Twitter came as it has reached one week since Nigerian government blocked usage of the app in the country. President Muhammadu Buhari administration has said that the organization was threatening the country cooperate existence.

This decision from Nigeria government happened after Twitter had deleted one of the tweets of President Muhammadu Buhari post on his personal account. Buhari had posted the tweet on June 1, 2021 were he addressed the insecurity issues in the country.

Twitter had posted on their platform on Friday and said that “Today mark one week since the Nigerian government blocked Twitter in Nigeria. They have informed the Nigerian government that they are ready to meet for open discussion to address mutual concerns and see the service restored. The social media company said the tweet by the President Muhammadu Buhari violates Twitter Rules.

In response to Twitter action, the presidency said that the mission of the social media company in Nigeria is “suspicious”.
The Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed had asked if Twitter has deleted the “violent tweets of the leader of the proscribed group – The Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu?”

He also said that “the same twitter, that funded End Sars protesters” – the protest called for an end to police brutality that happened in Nigeria on October, 2020.
Lai Mohammed said that “When people were burning police stations and they were killing police officers in the country, twitter had said is their right to protest.
