Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka, Business School in collaboration with the Centre for Regional and International Development, United Kingdom on have inaugurated the Learning and Development Unit.
News Echo reports that combining CRID’s world class experience, and UNIZIK’s academic excellence, the leadership learning and development unit has been developed to empower public and private sector personnel to improve performance and growth for the benefit of their organisations.
The event which took place in Awka had in attendance, UNIZIK governing council, Heads of Department, members of CRID, human resource managers, staff, as well as businessmen and women.
Addressing during the opening remark, Vice Chancellor, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Prof Charles Okechukwu Esimone noted that “the programme unit will support individuals who want to survive anywhere, develop new skills and create new things. It will give the individuals who want to be effective, make impacts and solve problems.
Prof Esimone while explaining the benefits of the programme among which are the students will have opportunity of learning secrets of networking and consistency, help develop the right skills required for material and human resource management, among others, said the Unit is designed to take care of transferable skills which are not taught explicitly in the classroom.
In his remark, Chief Executive Officer, Centre for Regional and International Development, United Kindgom, Mr Nicholas Aitalegbe, noted that the inaugural launch of the Learning and Development Unit, was to bring opportunities for business to be able to use our initiatives and relationhips to identify their training problems for which our task is to develop precise solutions that can be delivered in the form of very short trainings.
He asserted that “these trainings will be able to help key employees to be able to increase their performances, as well as help the organizations to increase their productivity.
Chairman Onitsha Chamber and Commerce, Minds and Agriculture, Chief Sir Kelvin Obieri stated that the launching of the programme is what the union have been yearning for years. According to him, alot of traders go into business too early in life and do not have the time to upgrade intellectually, and so If this programme is established in Onitsha these traders will be able to attend evening classes and become knowledgeable and self reliant.
He lamented the language barrier most of these traders encounter in the course of doing business especially those that travel outside. While urging for establishment of univeristy programme and the Chinese school which will go a long way to serve the interest of the traders.
Responding on the challenges of language communication between the traders and their Chinese counterparts, Mr Aitalegbe assured that as soon as to “the business school as helped to identify or re-certify those training needs, the next thing is to develop a Bishop solution that is going to be purely and solely for the Onitsha Chamber of Commerce.
And we hope by the time that is done it will lead us and expose us to other similar organisation within the state and the region, infact if anything goes according to our plan we intend to expand all over the country”.
Advising, Best Interest Assessor, Nena Emeson, said “what we have here today is an opportunity, Chamber of Commerce is ready to move, Unizik and CRID should run with this quit quickly. I believe this is just a stepping stones for many more opportunities that will come up but for now, let’s embrace the opportunity.
