Anambra State Government has reiterated its commitment toward sustaining the development of the education sector.
The governor, Gov. Willie Obiano said this while re-opening a school, Cave City Secondary School Main Hall and Staff members’ block that was recently renovated. He noted that, “No country will develop and compete favorably without raising sound leaders through education.’’

The renovation was carried out by the Nigerian Army, Department of Civil-Military Affairs on behalf of an illustrious son of Ogbunike, Maj. Gen. Charles Ofoche.
He hinted that any support extended to the school system is worth the while, stressing that if you don’t invest in education, the children cannot compete favorably with the developed countries.

He noted that the support should not be restricted to the provision of infrastructure alone, but that the teachers must be equipped in terms of capacity-building, so that they can impart knowledge to the children.
“Anambra is way up there in terms of education but we need to do more; we need to change the mindsets of our students, especially those that indulge in cybercrimes,’’ he said.

He lauded the efforts of Maj. Gen. Ofoche for his generosity and enjoined others to emulate him in terms of supporting the State Government. The Deputy Governor, Dr. Nkem Okeke represented the Governor at the event.

In a speech, Maj. Gen. Ofoche, who built the Ultra Modern School hall and Staff members’ blocks, noted that it was a pleasure seeing the project being completed. He said it was his wish to create an enabling environment, where students would receive sound education that would help them in the future.

Maj. Gen. Ofoche also thanked the Army for their approval and support toward the completion of the project and prayed the school to make judicious use of the edifice.
In his welcome address, the principal of the School, Mr. Augustine Okafor expressed gratitude to Maj. Gen. Ofoche for finding the school worthy to elevate it into such an edifice and by this act of philanthropy. “You have immensely demonstrated your love and passion for this town and stamped your footprint on the sands of time, for sons and daughters of the soil to emulate.’’

He also thanked the State Government that had shown friendly disposition by providing the school with books for its library, sports equipment, sickbay materials, retooling of science laboratories, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology, thereby making the teaching and learning of science subjects easy and interesting.
