NUASS Congress: Be united, conscious, Anambra, Commissioner tells students

The Anambra State Commissioner of Education, Professor Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, during the weekend, adviced the students to be united, conscious of their environment and support every good programmes and actions aimed at impacting positively on humanity and developing the state. The Commissioner, represented by Mr Nnaemeka Egwuonwu, made the call in Awka, while addressing the National Congress organised by the National Union of Anambra State Students (NUASS).

According to the Commissioner, Governor Charles Soludo’s administration will see to a transformational agenda that will ensure students achieve responsible roles in the society through quality education and leadership. He further tasked students to remain law abiding and good ambassadors of their homes and institutions at all time. In his remark, the National President, NUASS, Comr Okwuchukwu Okonkwo said the association is made up of all Anambra state students schooling in the thirty six states of nigeria.

He noted that the national congress is a programme held to discuss the way forward, and other activities the association. According to him, a lot of projects are in ground but blamed lack of funds as a barrier for some execution of projects. Comr Okonkwo in his speech pleaded with government to give them audience and support which will bring in partnership between the government and the students who are instrumental to the government.

He called on all members and students in various institutions to register for the voters card as it is the only way better to ensure that good governance and quality representative of the people. Also speaking, National Senate President of NUASS, Sen Okafor chukwuemka, stated that government collaborations with the association will give long way to improving the effectiveness of achieving a peaceful united nations. He, however, adviced the intending contestant to take practical cognisance of the leading roles and aspire for good leadership skills which will help improve the status quo of the association.

Chapter President, Federal University of Technology Minna, and also aspiring for the position of the National President Aniakor Charles Okechukwu noted that from the day the executive assumed office. “They expect to know what has been done in the association and if there is nothing done, they ought to ask questions, and there alre also decisions that are taken considering the performance of the executives. So the congress is a way that gove the student to right to make decisions concerning their welfare and unionism”. Earlier, President Ekwulobia Student Union, Comr Obiorah Victor expressed the fact that the situation of insecurity challenged pose a a big threat to students especially in tertiary institutions and something that needs to nipped out of the bud. He stated how the union in collaboration with the Ekwulobia President General organised a sensitization march in Oko and its environs. However, resolutions at the end of the meeting were establishment of directorate of transport and other utilities. Chairman Organizing Committee, Chioma Ugonma, NUASS National Secretary, Comr Joseph Iwunor including representatives from other tertiary institutions.
