Holy Ghost College Owerri has won N250,000 for emerging best winner of the Imo State selected senior secondary schools quiz competition organized by Rossy Foundation Int’l Germany in consonance with Heart of Gold Charity Foundation Austria.
The academic contest which was held last week at Holy Ghost College Owerri, had five selected secondary schools who participated. They included Government Secondary School Owerri, Akwakuma Girls Secondary School, Amaraku Secondary School, Isiala Mbano, Madonna Science School, Etiti and Holy Ghost College Owerri in the competition with 1st and 2nd runners up getting N200,000 and N150,000.
Presenting the money and gifts to the winners, Commissioner of Education, Prof. Sylvester Okorondu, who was represented by the Director of UBSE, department of ministry of education, Lady Dora Mirikwe, thanked the students for performing brilliantly in the quiz competition, saying the champions will be hosted by government even as he advised them to improve on their studies to have better future, peace and social security.
The Commissioner who was also recognized by the NGO on his sterling performance towards improving quality education, mentioned that the governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodimma, is doing well to ensure quality and affordable education.
Speaking, the chairman, local organizing committee of the quiz competition, Lady Grace Chigozie, founder, Rossy Foundation Int’l Germany, Mr. Chidi Nze, explained that the quiz competition was aimed at inculcating and bringing to life healthy reading culture in younger people who will drive the society.
Nze emphasized that “a good reader is a good leader. You are well informed when you read and source for accurate information. Every hardworking youth would become successful in life using himself (Chidi Nze) as example.
“Today is a great day for our participating students from different secondary schools across the senatorial zones of Imo State. The 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes will be awarded to best winners”.
Stating that the NGO which has headquarters in Germany having primary focus on uplifting and empowering deprived children especially the girl-child and widows through access to care and educational programs, Nze stressed that “Rossy Foundation Int’l Germany and Heart Charity Foundation Austria are ever ready to impact positively on our society through their various programs and hope more organizations and individuals will partner with them to fulfill the great vision”.
