In commemoration of International Women’s Day, a civil society organization, Youth Aid Development Initiative (YAD-I) has frowned at the rate of girl-child drop-outs from schools.
Speaking when the civil society organization took her sensitization engagement to Egbu Girls Secondary School, Egbu, the Executive Director of YAD-I, Anita Udeh hinted that with the theme ‘Choose To Challenge’, there was need to challenge factors that affect girl child education by looking at the “effects of girl child drop-out of school on their way to becoming great women tomorrow”.
She noted that every girl today will become a woman tomorrow, adding that it is imperative to guide them from an early stage to begin to make positive life choices for a developed, brighter and impactful future.
The organization noted that some of the attributes of personal factors that affect progress included: laziness, greed, peer group influence and lack of commitment to studying which usually has negative effects at the long run. The YAD-I team called on the students to watch out for these personal threats and consciously guide against them if they want to become relevant to themselves and the society at large.
The principal and vice principal of the school, Lady O. U Basil-Nwachukwu and Mrs. Evelyn Ogechi Ndukwu respectively lauded the team and committed to partnering with them on any school project. She noted that, her school does not accept every organization to engage the students, stressing that when she saw the team she knew they had something positive to offer. She encouraged the young team to forge ahead with their good works.
