Vice Chancellor of the Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka, Anambra State, Professor Charles Esimone, on Tuesday, warned students of the institution not to allowed politicians to decide their future, noting that the University Management under his leadership did not increase school fees, as protested.
The VC said the management only harmonised the different fees. By this, no student is expected to make any other Faculties, Department and Union fees.
News Echo had earlier reported that students of the institution, on Monday, barricaded portion of the Enugu-Onitsha highway in protesting alleged hike in school fees by the university management.
The students, alleged that the university management connivance with the Student Union Government (SUG) over the purported increment.
But while addressing the students at the school premises, Prof. Esimone, informed them that the harmonization came up in obedience to the Federal Government instruction on Treasury Single Account (TSA) that no Faculty or Department) should have separate accounts.
Based on this, the University management constituted a Committee that will carry out this harmonization of school fees which gave rise to its implementation since 2019/2020 Academic Session.
The harmonized fees included Faculty levy, Departmental levy, Convocation levy, Students Union fees, ICT Services, Examination fee, Laboratory/Studies/Clinical Fee, Laboratory test, x-Ray test, National Health Insurance Scheme, Development Levy, Students Union Fee Accreditation and Convocation fee, the VC explained.
He appealed to the students to stop protesting and allowed the already peace harmony to continue.
