A Group, G-Initiative, in partnership with the Transition Committee of Ikeduru Local Government Area of Imo State, has organized a successful Essay Competition for all secondary school students of Ikeduru.
The academic exercise which has topic as “Sustainable Development of Igbo Land”, took place at Akabo Community Primary School, Atta, Ikeduru LGA, with 37 schools participating and smiling home with cash reward.
Prizes of N40,000, N20,000 were awarded to the first winner, Uzoamaka Edel- Quinn Chinaemere, of Fountain of Life Int’l Modern Secondary School, second winner, Ifeanyi Kelechi, of Iho Comprehensive Secondary School and third winner, Anyanwu Akachukwu, of Atta High School. The 4th winner got N10,000 consolation prize while the rest got N5,000 each for participating in the competition who went home excitedly and fulfilled.
Speaking after the competition, Founder and Chairman of G- Initiative, Hon. Ganiru Okoro, who used the academic exercise to commemorate his birthday, noted that the competition was geared to encourage, as well as promote academic excellence among students of the locality through quality education and conducive learning environment.
Mentioning that G- Initiative is in partnership with a lot of groups or people to promote standard, quality education and to imbue sense of discipline and excellence in the young minds, Okoro hinted that “we are going to slowly touch every student to be able to achieve Sustainable Development Goals especially when students work hard and teach others of the importance of sustainable goals.
We are going to begin quality education project with the assistance of everyone we know, but beginning with me, we are going to fully rehabilitate the school: Akabo Primary School Atta, Ikeduru, hence the competition was held there. The essay competition is for those who know and those who want to know. The idea is for us to know where to start from in our projects. We hope that the next exercise will be bigger”.
Promising to do whatever he can within his power to provide good education to everyone that he can reach, the sponsor of the Essay Competition added that “in a sustainable environment we need to have sustainable mind- your mind needs to be tuned towards sustainable development goals which falls under SDGs- 17- which is partnership for the goals. Meaning, we need to come together and make sure that we can achieve a project in the school which is going to be the beginning of our quality education project. I congratulate all students who wrote the essay”.
The philanthropist while thanking those who partnered with G- Initiative to make the Essay Competition a huge success, stressed “when it comes to essay competition, we were looking at quality education. And for us to be able to deliver quality education, you need to know how educated you are. If Ikeduru is leading everyone else on Sustainable Development Goals, may be they may copy us, but we will always be ahead of them”.
