Former FedPoNek Rector calls for skill empowerment of girls

The former Rector of Federal Polytechnic Nekede Owerri and Chairman for Women Integration Education, Prof. Lady Cele Ugochi Njoku, has called for the education and skill empowerment of girls so that they engage in meaningful activities in order not to endanger their future on meaningless activities .

She made the call while speaking after receiving excellent award from the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists held at the Rockview Hotel, Owerri, last Thursday. The former Rector who was represented by the National Coordinator, Women Integration Education and Employment, Princess Dr. Regina Elechi Amadi, advised women and girls to work hard to prevent falling victims of abuse and humiliation.

The former Rector said when government, both federal and state, invest adequately in the education and the skill empowerment of the girl child including women they would beat poverty and vulnerability and be free from being killed, trafficked, abused, dehumanized and relegated by dare devils whose watchwords she said are greed and avarice.

She said she has done well in supporting anything that concerns girl child or womanhood hence her recognition by the group which she described as meritorious and deserving, saying she established an inspiring program in the Federal Polytechnic Nekede Owerri with a view to bringing women in the institution under one umbrella.

Njoku thanked NAWOJ for finding her worthy for the award as she promised to continue to do things that qouy empower females and elevate the society.
