Anambra state Commissioner for Basic Education, Professor Kate Omenugha has said that plans are ongoing for the installation of surveillance cameras and other devices to monitor examinations in schools across the state.
Professor Omenugha stated this in an interview with newsmen in Awka where she noted that the initiative would help stamp out examination malpractice in the state.

According to the commissioner, Governor Willie Obiano has approved the installation of surveillance cameras, Internet Protocols and other necessary gadgets to all existing examination halls in public schools within the state as part of the revolutionary plans to improve education in the state.
According to her, this technology will help watch and monitor students while they take exams such as the West African Senior School Certificate Examination, WASSCE or the Junior West Africa Examination Council.

She said it will prevent students from cheating during exams as well as help instill in students the confidence that they need to read and face examinations without any external aid.
However, Omenugha also stated that private schools in the state have been directed to also install IP cameras in their examination halls, while adding that any school that is found aiding examination malpractice would be properly dealt with or the government taking further actions by shutting down the school.
