The Vice Chancellor of Imo State University (IMSU), Owerri, Prof. Peter Akah, has pointed out that effective communication is very important hence plays key role in national development, peace and comfort, saying any society who embraces accurate information progresses roundly.

The Vice Chancellor stated this while having audience with executive members of the Association of Communication Scholars and Professionals of Nigeria (ACSPN), Imo State chapter, who paid him a courtesy visit at his office, last week.

Reflecting that cutting off effective communication kills faster than any corrosive acid, Prof. Akah urged government to strengthen the media by voting huge finance to secondary and tertiary institutions of learning to encourage the study of communication or information studies.

He used the opportunity to eulogize the National President of the association, Prof. Umaru Pate, who he praised did well by bringing the association to Imo State, assuring the group of the university’s partnership to ensure more success.

In her speech earlier, the Imo State Chairman of ACSPN, Adeline Nkwam-Uwaoma, informed the Vice Chancellor of the group’s intention to hold maiden edition of the Imo State ACSPN Empowerment Series, whose theme is going to be “Media: Insecurity, Academics, Economic and General Well-being of Nigeria”, mentioning he event will take place in March 22nd, 2022, at Imo State University Auditorium, with scholars and professionals in the field of communication across the country gracing it.

In her words, the association’s Public Relations Officer, Mrs. Peggy Okodogbe, related that ACSPN is an association which unites communication scholars and professionals with the objective of “developing programs of high- quality scholarly research, publication and knowledge exchange within ACSPN and other organisations with similar aims globally”, hinting the group is committed to advance the study and practice of communication by promoting, facilitating excellence in academic research and professional practice.

Thanking the Vice Chancellor for the opportunity and partnership, an executive member of ACSPN, Peter Dibia, stressed that the basic target of the group is to support the process of shaping communication, training and practice, saying it also compliments works of other bodies to strengthen and sustain accurate, effective communication in Imo State.
