Anambra State Commissioner for Youth Empowerment and Creative Economy, Prof. Theresa Obiekezie has been awarded with an honour of excellence in professional service by the Faculty of Physical Sciences, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka.
The award was conferred on her during the 9th Annual Lecture series of the Faculty held at the University auditorium, over the week with the theme “The Implications of a Chemical Product and Its Waste”
According to Dr. Mrs. Nkechi Okoye, who read her citation, she described Prof. Obiekezie as distinguished academia and a researcher with over 45 academic publications to her credit.
“At present she is the only atmospheric physicist in the university and has over 18 grants to her credit which enabled her to travel to different countries in search of newer knowledge.
“It is also worthy of note that she is the first female Professor of Physics in the university, one of the few who became professors at an early age in the faculty”, Dr. Okoye said.
The Chairman of the occasion, Professor Luke Anike, former Vice Chancellor, Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT), who presented the plaque to the Commissioner, commended the faculty for the achievements recorded.
Speaking shortly after receiving the award,
Prof Obiekezie said she considered it an honour for the recognition of her efforts having been a former Head of Department under the faculty.
She added that the honour would spur her to work harder and add more value to the university community as well as in service of Anambra State.
Earlier, Dean of the Faculty, Professor Josephat Ogbuagu, said it had maintained a steady annual lecture series over the years with active participation of each department under the faculty.
He appreciated the Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Charles Esimone, for his effort towards the establishment of three new departments of Information Communication Technology, CyberSecurity and Software Engineering in the Faculty.
