The Armed Forces Remembrance Day, also simply known as Remembrance Day, is celebrated and observed on 15 January every year to commemorate the servicemen of the Nigerian Armed Forces. It also honors veterans of the World War I and II as well as the Nigerian Civil War.

It is a day set aside for sober reflections on the significance of the armed forces to the country.

It is important that the spirit of defending the territory of the country is increased as the celebration comes and goes. Citizens must appreciate the efforts of the armed forces, especially those who have paid the supreme prize in their quest to protect the lives and property of Nigerians as well as to defend her territorial integrity.

They should be commended for paying the supreme prize for the unity, peace and protection of fellow humans in Nigeria.

The Armed Forces Remembrance Day is celebrated to communicate the fact that the sacrifice of the fallen heroes and those serving to protect the sovereignty of Nigeria are not taken for granted. It is moral booster for increased commitment, devotion and dedication in the service of God and humanity.

It sends strong positive signal to those serving that their labours and those cannot be in vain. If only encouraging those who are staking their lives at the fronts of insecurity is what the citizens should do, then it’s not asking for too much.

We urge the security operatives to continue to be inspired to ensure the security of protection of lives and properties especially at the heels of the Armed Forces Remembrance Day. There should be collaborative efforts including the citizens to contending the scourge of insecurity in the country.

The signing of register by the President and governors as innovation to the celebration shows that they have gone through this process of the celebration.

Recall that the armed forces remembrance day celebration dates back to 1919 when the British Commonwealth member states used the day to mark the end of the first world war and honoured the memory of those who died during the war.
