Since the level of insecurity heightened and Nigeria suddenly became a killing field there have been strident calls for the impeachment of President Muhammadu Buhari. These calls originate from the actions and inactions of the president which leaves the situation worsening each passing day with the consequences of numerous loss of lives and properties.

Clearly everything points to the fact that the federal government is completely overwhelmed and has no response to the unsettling situations. Even the cry to reach out to outside forces for support to root out the challenge has also fallen on deaf ears. Thus it was not difficult to raise the charges of conspiracy against the federal government

The body language of the federal government consequent on the granting of amnesty to the so called repented Boko Haram culprits and their subsequent admittance to the Nigerian army has questioned the sincerity of the federal government. There is also the issue of inability to prosecute and jail the suspects.
A former president, Olusegun Obasanjo once accused the president of the fulanization and islamization of the entire country arising from his lopsided appointment of Muslims of northern extraction which dominated the system. This conspicuously sacrificed merit on the altar of religion and tribe. All the hues and cries so far have fallen on deaf ears.

The implication is that this has fuelled more agitations for separatist states among the agitators. The country has never been more divided at any time than under the regime of President Buhari. While the Indegenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has continued to up the ante, the South West is angling with their Oduduwa Republic and just recently it was reported that the Middle Belt has launched their own group to pull away.

There is none of these regions that have no tale of woes to lament over the monumental damages inflicted on them by Fulani herders, bandits and kidnappers. All of the above and other impeachable offences have led to the call for the president to give way to bring sanity.
The impeachment of the president is considered long overdue but over looked by the National Assembly whose responsibility it is to so do. This failure stems from the party or ethnic loyalty of the NASS members who lack the courage to pull him out. But the heightened insecurity has frightened some of them to now speak up for the impeachment.

News Echo canvasses for the unity of this country but within the bounds of equity and fairness to all concerned. Strong justifications abound for the splitting of this country as an incoherent whole weaved together by colonialism. The challenges of this country have been dimensioned and solutions proffered. We are at a loss why the country cannot see the way out of the woods.

We subscribe to the views strongly that the three arms of government have not lived up to the expectations as the demands of independence requires. If the national assembly has played its oversight functions creditably things would not have degenerated to this level. After surrendering their powers to the president they seem to be waking up now to call for the president’s ouster.

Many Nigerians are holding the members of the NASS as representatives of the people greatly responsible for the numerous problems bedeviling the country because of their pussy footing on critical matters. If quitting the president is the surest way to stabilize the country so be it. The level of insecurity in the country has become intolerable.
A stitch in time saves nine.
