The challenges of insecurity in the South East and Nigeria at large is something that needs to be dealt a resounding blow to restore stability and not what should be politicized in any manner.

It would appear that the South East governors had treated the issue of insecurity with levity prompting the Independent People of Biafra (IPOB) to launch their Eastern Security Network (ESN) at a time it mattered most.

At the time herders had ran rings round our settlements killing and raping our mothers in their farms while our governors seemed to look the other way with no response beyond uninspiring verbal expression.

This is unlike the Benue governor Ortom who speaks fearlessly truth to power in defense of his people over similar experience.

When it became apparent that the ESN had stolen the show drawing applause, and with unconfirmed reports pointing fingers at them that they are behind the attacks on security installations in the South East which they have since denied, the South East governors woke up with their Ebubeagu Since its announcement in Owerri South Easterners from feelers appear not interested in the venture with many asking them to adopt the ESN and make some modifications because there is very strong suspicion that there might be a conflict.

Besides it will amount to a duplication of resources. Many still view the pronouncement as a political response to save face from the embarrassing situation confronting them as the chief security officers of their respective states.

So far from observations it looks that the governors were ill prepared before making the pronouncement which showed no evidence of their insignia, enabling laws, patrol vans, recruited employees, structures and other operational modalities.

It was only yesterday that the some six boys were unveiled in Abakaliki by Gov Umahi It was once reported that same Umahi was quoted as claiming to have in one situation dispatched Ebubeagu team to quell a troubled spot.

This becomes difficult to reconcile in the light of discordant tunes issuing from the governors.

Since after the pronouncement, the Igbo nation has been on the boil with violence enveloping everywhere on daily basis. Life is now hanging on a balance, quite insecure and the once most peaceful region in Nigeria according to United Nations rating is now competing for violence in the dreaded northern region.

News Echo is alarmed at the situation and demands more explanation to assuage the feeling of the agitated and aggrieved Igbo who are not sure of the next moment.

This is the moment the Ebubeagu needs to hit the road running. The governors should walk their talk. The people are watching.

They cannot shirk their responsibility at this critical moment. Igbo need to live in one piece The Igbo ethnic group by nature is peaceful and never in Nigeria have they been charged with invoking violence against their hosts.

Today no part of Igbo land is secure arising from the actions and inactions of the governor. We urge the people to remain calm and plead with the governors to expedite action in retrieving the region from the ruin it is trapped in.

Posterity will never judge them fairly for collapsing the region for failure to do the needful even if extricating themselves from their northern oligarchs.
