… As Abia traders descend on suspect

Men of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) in Umuahia, Abia State over the weekend, rescued a suspected fraudster from being killed by angry traders.
The incident happened along St. Silas Anglican Church area of Old Umuahia, Umuahia South LGA. The suspect, who simply identified himself as Azubuike, allegedly belonged to a syndicate which specialized in defrauding traders and passengers through diabolic means and was in the Umuahia South area again, to perform his usual act.

But luck ran out of Azubuike when some of his previous victims in the community identified him and raised the alarm which led to his apprehension.
On interrogation, the suspect allegedly confessed his role in the disappearance of money belonging to his victims, but saying that he was not alone in the fraudulent activities. He pleaded for mercy from the angry crowd, promising to turn a new leaf if allowed to go.

But the arrival of some past victims to the scene, made the case worse for the suspect as they narrated how they lost their money to Azubuike and his gang after selling goods to them.
These narrations from victims attracted heavy beating of the suspect from the mob, leaving him in pool of his blood.
However, men of the Civil Defense who arrived the scene, rescued the suspect from being set ablaze and later took him away.

One of the fraud victims who gave her name as Madam Onyii Ezekwe alleged that a huge sum of money belonging to her husband, disappeared in September, this year after Azubuike and another member of his group bought goods from her.

“I can’t remember how the money got missing. They bought provision from me and a few seconds after they left, the money in the drawer disappeared. My husband nearly sent me packing, thinking I misused the money on clothes and make up but I thank God this man has been exposed and am now vindicated.
