The Imo state police command has assured of its commitment to fish out criminals who killed two policemen last Saturday at Ngor Okpala LGA of Imo state.
Speaking through its spokesman, ASP Henry Okoye, said the state police command will use all available measures to arrest and prosecute those that unleashed mayhem on the Counter Terrorism team deployed to the area. He disclosed that the perpetrators are suspected to be members of the IPOB/ESN.
He stated that any group that attacks the police and kill important personalities in a state should be tagged as a terrorist group.
He disclosed that already the command has made some arrest in that regard and urged the members of the public to corporate with the police and the sister agencies to report criminals or anyone treating bullet wounds around them.
He said nobody has any genuine reasons to attack the police or its facilities and warn the public not to shield criminals. He assured of the command commitments to its commitment with the state DSS and local security agencies to reduce crimes and criminalities in the state.
He disclosed that most of the gangs who attack the police stations seize the opportunity to acquire police arms and ammunitions used for their illicit activities.
While speaking of its readiness to combat crimes in the state, the police spokesman said, the police has enough personnel and ammunitions to confront criminals and reduce their incessant operations in the state.
He maintained further that the police is working in synergy with the police commands in other states to fish out criminals who commit crimes in Imo and run to other states for hideout siting examples of its success in that regard.
He however urged the police and security agencies to be up and doing while been alert to combat attacks from the criminals. He also disclosed that the police have made over 80 percent arrest of escapees of the Owerri Correctional centres who were unleashing mayhem after escaping from the prison.
