In a bid to ensure that there is end to the consumption of illicit drugs in Imo state, the Organization for Drug Abuse and Violence Free Society (ODAFREES), Youth Aid Development Initiative (YAD-I) and News Echo newspaper have partnered the Nigeria Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Imo State command.
Speaking during the advocacy visit that held at the office of the NDLEA in Owerri, the Executive Director of Organization for Drug Abuse and Violence Free Society (ODAFREES), Williams Ohuizu noted that there is need to partner with the agency to deal once and for all, the menace of illicit drug consumption in the state, adding that it is wrong for the community members to resort to jungle justice.
He called on the agency to do more sensitization with the civil society and media to save the society from collapse. He commended the command for its efforts, stressing that there is need to build rehabilitation center at the command. He called on good spirited individuals and government to support the command to achieve the move.
In her comment, the Executive Director, Youth Aid Development Initiative (YAD-I), Anita Udeh implored the agency to always support CSOs in community awareness to tackle the spate of illicit drugs in the communities, adding that the sustenance of the partnership will make Imo drug free state.
The Editor of News Echo newspaper, Chigozie Uzosike noted that the newspaper has been writing against the intake of mkpuru mmiri, adding that the newspaper will not stop until there is an end to it.
Responding, the Commander of NDLEA, Imo state command, Mr. Reuben Apeh extolled the team for coming and promised to work with them to end drug in the state.
