As illicit drugs especially ‘Mkpuru mmiri’ continues to do damage to our youths, those who sale this drugs in the communities have been exposed.
Speaking to newsmen, a community mobilizer, from Umu Aguma Ali-enyi Mgbidi in Oru-west LGA Imo State, Engr. Ndubuaku Onyeka (Ochompo) has condemned the infiltration of enemies of Ndigbo into the communities who sale this mkpuru Mmiri to the youths just to destroy this generation. “Whoever sales this dangerous drugs to anybody is an enemy of Ndigbo and must be chased away before our youths are destroyed”, he insisted.
He noted that the issue of mkpuru Mmiri is taking the youths away from morality, adding that if nothing is done to checkmate the consumption of mkpuru Mmiri, in the next ten years the youths would have been destroyed. He wondered why somebody will take something that will not allow the person to either eat or sleep and that person expects to behave like a human being, no the person will behave like an animal.
Ndubuaku hinted that the most unfortunate thing about this drug is that even girls take it. Once they don’t see money to buy the mkpuru Mmiri, they steal and commit all sorts of social vices to get money just to buy the drug.
The community galvanizer, Ndubuaku revealed that the dealers hide in uncompleted buildings, some build huts in the bush while some others hide right inside the riverine areas, where they sale it so that nobody will know what’s going on. He urged all villages, communities and towns to comb the bushes to fish out dealers of this mkpuru Mmiri and chased them away from the communities, adding that the first move is to discover where the dealers are and flush them out in Ndigbo land.
He noted that in Mgbidi, the community has taken drastic measures to first, searched the bushes and chased out the dealers away from the community, stressing that the youths are combing the bushes and flushing them out. “We have issued serious warning to dealers to leave Mgbidi community or face the consequences”. He pointed out that some of the youths caught taking mkpuru Mmiri were dealt with to serve as deterrent to potential contemplative consumers, noting that by the time some youths who take it see the punishment meted to those caught, they will advice themselves and stay way, especially that the punishment is done in the presence of the whole members of the community. He added that Mgbidi community will continue that effort until the community is rid of the menace.
Ndubuaku called on the members of Ali-enyi, in Mgbidi community, Imo state and Ndigbo to desist from taking mkpuru Mmiri as it is the destroyer of our value system that have been built over time. He said most of the criminalities in the South East are functions of intake of mkpuru Mmiri, stressing that Ndigbo are not known with things like that.
In another development, Engr. Ndubuaku Onyeka commended the governor of Imo State, Sen. Hope Uzodimma for the effort he is making to return to Imo citizens all the lands forcefully taken from them by the last administration, adding that it is a step in right direction.
