By community effort, youths of Umuokwara, Ihebinaowere autonomous community of Njaba local government area of Imo State, led by their President, Engr. Wisdom Igboanusi, have rehabilitated their abandoned ancestral road.
The President told journalists last week at the area that the road rehabilitation became necessary given the pronounced hardship the people encountered while entering the community.
He said a journey of one hour would take two or three hours to get to the community due to long distance and bad state of the road. “If you are coming from Owerri, instead of stopping at Ihebinaowere Junction, you will go all the way to Okudor Junction before you can get to the community.
This has been giving us sleepless nights. So, we took it upon ourselves to reopen the road through individual contributions and I thank God for making it a reality”.
Igboanusi stated that the road which was abandoned for over forty years, is a major road that links more than five communities: Umuokwara, Umuneke, Amiri, Omuma, Atta and Akata, maintaining that the reopening of the road would improve social economic activities at the area.
The youth appreciated sons and daughters of the community: Anthony Nwadike, Walter Ofoegbu, Oluchi Njika, Hon. Uju Onwudiwe, member representing Njaba State Constituency in Imo State House of Assembly, among others for their financial support that made it possible for the rehabilitation of the link road.
Adding his voice, former youth President of the community and Patron of the youth association, Comr. Joseph Okpara, posited that “what seemed impossible is now possible through God Almighty who by His infinite wisdom, strengthened and directed the youth to rehabilitate the road.
Hence, we appeal to Hon. Uju Onwudiwe to use her office to attract state government’s attention to the community. Because the community is lagging behind in terms of infrastructure”.
