In order to sustain peace, comfort and security in the society, government has been urged to create job opportunities by fixing electricity, water, healthcare centres, general hospitals, roads, invest richly in education, agriculture, build befitting markets, fix and control prices of goods, commodities and services including prompt payment of salaries and pensions.
This urge was given by the traditional ruler of Umuokanne autonomous community, Ohaji/Egbema local government area, Imo State, HRH, Eze Chiedozie Matthew Nwokoma (Eze Okaa- Omee 4th), during an interview with journalists at his palace on Sunday.
He frowned that violence and crime which bedevil the nation are adversely rooted from ungodliness, bad leadership underdevelopment, unemployment, lack of infrastructure, poverty, suffering, difficulty, fallen education standard, decreased production on agriculture and quick money syndrome, advising the ruling class to imbibe democracy ethos to develop the society and wipe off penury, crime and insecurity.
The monarch who was the former OC, Inspector General of Police, Intelligence Squad, did not mince words as he charged the Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodimma, to improve good governance by building quality infrastructure, upholding quality and affordable education and befitting market structures across the state, as well as engage the youth and women on trading and vocational skills.
He mentioned that Umuokanne is the most peaceful community in the Niger Delta because of good leadership and tolerance among natives and strangers. He stressed that there was no bloodshed during the ezeship struggle in the community, hence the display of maturity and patriotism by the people.
“When the righteous is on the throne, the people rejoice. My subjects are rejoicing because our kingdom is cool and progressing. Indeed, Umuokanne Ohaji is the most peaceful community in the Niger Delta. This is because we have love, unity and tolerance. We have prominent people too, who understand the importance of peace, comfort and development. When I was a regent, I maintained peace and we did not shed blood in the ezeship contest. The dedication of Diocese of Ohaji/Egbema Anglican Church of St. Peters Umuokanne was a huge success and we thank God for the feat achieved. I charge traditional rulers in the South East to rule their subjects with human face: love to ensure peace, progress, prosperity of their community”.
“Therefore, I call on government to return security of the community to the traditional rulers and as an intelligent security agent, I know what to do to make sure that peace returns in the society”.
Affirming that Umuokanne is blessed with great men and women who are doing well in all aspects of life, the former Chairman, Imo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission and Federal Commissioner representing South East on Pilgrim Commission under the Presidency, Rev. Dr. Emmanuel Eberechukwu Ebomuche, described the Umuokanne monarch, Eze Chiedozie Matthew Nwokoma, as peaceful, kindhearted and ebullient breed who believes in goodness of his subjects.
“Our Eze is ebullient and Umuokanne has the penchant for peace in the world. Hence we call on the whole world to come and invest in Umuokanne because the community is an investment haven for all. We love strangers and such has been our magic wand for peace and success”, he maintained.
